Daniel Libeskind in Prague: Where History Meets the Future

Daniel Libeskind v Praze: Historie potkava budoucnost

We love Prague for its towers, cobblestone streets, historic houses, and the charm of a medieval city. The centre of Prague is rightfully listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and proudly carries its historical face, yet at the same time it is unafraid of modern transformations and bold new visions.

This is exactly what the new Rohan City project confirms — a development rising on the former Rohan Island. And it is no ordinary project: it is being designed under the name of world-renowned and award-winning architect Daniel Libeskind, author of the Ground Zero master plan in New York, the Jewish Museum in Berlin, and the Imperial War Museum in Manchester.

For the first time in his celebrated career, Daniel Libeskind is also designing a public space in Prague. In addition to four residential buildings named Sekyra Flowers, he has created the concept for a new square that will become the heart of this modern 21st-century district.

An interesting highlight is that the streets and parks will carry the names of famous philosophers — creating the very first philosophical district in Europe.

Daniel himself says:
“It’s not just about buildings, but about atmosphere. About connecting history, culture, ideas, and life. Prague is not just another place on the map where you can build something. Prague is a spiritual centre of art. This is not about creating innovative buildings, but about buildings that correspond with the ambitions of Prague’s history.”

The project certainly aims to be not only beautiful and modern, but also deep, thoughtful, and inspired by the spirit of the city. As proud Praguers, we are excited about Daniel’s approach, his plans, and his vision of making Prague an even more fascinating place. Let’s look forward to a unique contrast: world-class contemporary architecture in the heart of a vibrant historical centre. Prague and its new face — a city that honours its past, lives in the present, and builds its future.
